This red brick character home had everything — the arched doorway, the craftsman roofline, the kind of presence that only comes with age. What it was missing was a front yard that could meet it at the door.

The old approach was gone. In its place, we laid a custom diamond-pattern interlock walkway running the full length from the street — large-format light grey slabs set on the diagonal, separated by tight charcoal grid lines, bordered clean on both sides. It’s a bold pattern, and it was the right call. Against a heritage home like this, anything understated would have disappeared.

At the front, we built a raised interlock landing — a proper arrival moment — with a stacked retaining wall and matching steps leading up to the entrance. The geometry of the landing mirrors the walkway, tying the whole design together. Around the side, a curved path follows the natural line of the yard, connecting the front to the back without forcing anything straight that shouldn’t be.

The result is a home that finally has a front yard worth the house behind it.
